A sprawling epic where the murder of an esteemed Physicist during the China's Cultural Revolution by Red Guards begins a chain of events leading to an interstellar war. The murder was witnessed by his daughter Wenjie, who grows to be an astrophysicist, and later falsely charged with sedition for promoting the works of environmentalist Rachel Carson.

Wenjie is given the option of avoiding prison by working at a research facility involved with the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Their signal is received by an alien civilization on the verge of annihilation, which plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, the world becomes fractured and some factions work to welcome the invading alien forces while others plan to fight.

Three-Body Problem is the start of a grand saga, intricately plotted, and intense, for fans of ensemble character pieces.
